SUSPENSION OF MANDATORY ENROLLMENT PLAN IN THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE SERVICE
Changes and finalized information regarding South Korea’s mandatory enrollment plan in the national health insurance service are explained below.
International students’ mandatory enrollment plan in the national health insurance service has been suspended until February 28th, 2021 as a result of close consultation between South Korea’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and National Health Insurance Service.
Although the original plan was to have international students, in other words, D-2 visa holders in Korea subjected to compulsory registration in the national health insurance service starting from July 16th, 2019, it is now finalized that D-2 visa holders will be excluded from the compulsory registration plan until February 28th, 2021. For this reason, starting from July 16th, 2019, international students will not be able to register or enroll in the national health insurance plan of Korea. If one wishes to enroll in the national health insurance plan, he/she must go to the Korean National Health Insurance Service to apply for an insurance plan by July 15th, 2019.
