Jean Monnet EU Centre of Excellence at Korea University (EU Centre hereafter) was newly set up in September 2019 by the financial support of the European Commission. Its previous name was the KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre which was established by the consortium of Korea University, Korea Institute for International Economic Policy and Seoul Broadcasting System with generous co-funding from the European Union. Up to August 2019, it first received the EU headquarters’ financial support amounted to 700,000 Euros for the establishment and operation of the KU-KIEP-SBS EU Centre. Later, from September 2016 to August 2019, it completed the Jean Monnet Network Project among five Asian nations (EU financial support amounted to 300,000 Euros) as a coordinating organisation. After its remarkable achievements, from September 2019 to August 2022, it won two major Jean Monnet Activities: Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (100,000 Euros) and Jean Monnet Network Project (300,000 Euros). It is indisputably the world’s leading research and education institution for EU Studies. Also, it receives the funds from the KIEP to operate an education and research support programme for two years from 2020 Spring Semester.
The EU Centre has close relationships with the EU Delegation to Korea, the embassies of EU Member States, Europe-related government agencies and research institutes as well as other world-leading EU-related research institutes. Based on this cooperation network, it has been operating international conferences, research projects, international exchange programmes, special lecture series many other diverse programmes. It will actively seek after fostering future academic generations.
