THE 1ST MODEL AFRICAN UNION CONFERENCE (MAU)
The 1stModel African Union (MAU) Conference was jointly hosted by GSIS of Korean University and Korea-Africa Future Strategy Center on October 31st, 2015. It was the first conference, which has been held in East Asia, to encourage awareness and interest to Africa and cultivate future professionals for Africa.
The theme of first MAU Conference was “The Energy Crisis in Africa,” and 16 student teams were formed to represent the corresponding member of African Union member countries respectively. 31 graduate students from 10 domestic and foreign universities took part as a delegation for 16 African countries as well as other Ambassadors and Embassies of African countries demonstrated interests by participating the conference.
The first part of the conference consisted of a presentation about Energy status and strategies for energy crisis of 16 countries. In particular, with Mr. Rhee Soo-Taek, the head of United Nations Industrial Development Organization Investment and Technology Promotion Office (UNIDO IPTO) Korea, there were Q&A sessions on the regional energy cooperation and suggestions of Africa on the second part of the conference. The student delegation had a heated discussion based on politics, economics, and social context of each country.
